Yesterday was a good day. My host Robert from Thunder Bay was so kind to drop me off near the Highway. It still took me about 1 hr to find a good spot to hitchhike. I was waiting there maybe 30 min. when i got picked up by Kyle. He was a very generous young man on his way to work.
Since he was early to work he decided to drive me some 15 km past his exit.
That was extremely nice and got me again in a very good spot. Now my "Gary day" started.
After another 30 min. i got called from the other side of the road by a guy (Gary Nr.1).
He took me then another 50 km. He even gave me his phone number, just in case.
Now i was stranded more or less in the middle of nowhere.
The only thing i had in my back was that little Gas station behind me. I started to walk next to the highway and had to wait about 1 hr. until Gary Nr. 2 pulled over. He was going all the way to Dryden, which was half the way (280 km). During that time we passed maybe 3-4 little Towns and that's it. There was only Wood, Snow, Stones and Lakes as far as you could see. Only very few cars passed. So being stuck somewhere between these towns would not be funny at all and you should be more or less as skilled as Bear Grylls ;) Gary Nr. 2 even sponsored me a meal and a drink after we arrived in Dryden!
I then made my way to my Host in Dryden Maria and Alain, who just moved in to their new nice house. They where actually the only Couchsurfer in this 8500 people Town. So i was quit lucky to stay here over night. We had some nice Vegan BBQ and tested 3 different Canadian Beer.
Today i want to make my way to Winnipeg, from where I hope to catch a ride share on Friday morning all the way to Calgary, which is already in British Columbia and at the base of the Rocky Mountains. But i am still waiting on a reply.
Cheers!
Hey Michael! Wishing you good luck with getting a ride to Winnipeg! Also keep your ears on the news, parts of the Trans Canada in Saskatchewan are closed due to flooding today, hope it clears up soon.
