Oki, yesterday I arrived in Ottawa. That was a bumpy ride.
First i got out late from the Apartment. We had Breakfast around 11 am and i was then making my way to the Post Office where i wanted to drop of my little Backpack with some Cloth that where to much and had to go. So i actually intended to send them home in the Bag. But unfortunately the Post office was not where i anticipated it so i just left the Bag on the Street for maybe some homeless people. The spot where i intended to hitchhike was not reachable, because it was more an industrial Complex and a lot of street work was going on. So i found myself a Gas station a little up the road. After 40 min. of smiling at peoples face i got my first lift for about 20km.
Only short time later i got my next lift for about 30km. Now things got interesting.
I was picked up immediately by a woman who dropped me oft just on the next exit.
I got out of the Car and was just looking around where the next good spot would be,
When a guy came up to me (he parked next to me) and was asking me if i need a ride. Sure i did.
So we talked and it turned out it was Jamie Nicholls, left wing Candidate in the Province ;)
He even drove me to the next exit because the one he intended to go was bad for catching a ride. So he dropped me of on the next one.
But as always, some things are to good to be true. The place he dropped me off was actually
not an exit, it was just the route 17 splitting off from the 40. So Cars would go 100+ km/h and there was no way that one would stop for me. Since i could not walk back along route 40, i had to make my way forward on 17 for about 8 Km which is not really fun with an 18 Kg Backpack.I actually didn´t realy knew where i was going but i reached a Town called Hawkesbury.
I was very lucky when i learned that there was a Greyhound Bus station. Until the next Bus it was around 2 hours, so i tried some more hitchhiking. Some cars stopped but only promised to drive me short distance. With the Greyhound station in my Back and the upcoming darkness over my head i didn´t take the risk of getting lost in the next remote town.
When darkness won and exhaustion overcame me i went back to a "Tim Horton´s" where i then took a coffee and waited. The Bus came 8:30pm, and i arrived in Ottawa around 10:30 pm.
luckily my host was still awake and waited withe a nice warm meal and a Glass of Wine for me ;) Happy end!
